The Yellowstone is the only major river in the U.S. that still runs free. It has many irrigation projects, etc. but no dam spans this beautiful river and hopefully never will. This scene is in the Hayden Valley in Yellowstone park. I saw this on a particularly warm October afternoon. At first, the lighting was flat and uninteresting, but soon clouds from an approaching weather system began moving in, casting their shadows across the landscape. The scene that only a few minutes before was rather bland became quite dramatic before my eyes. I added the flyfisherman later, but the canada geese were there and can usually be seen along with herds of bison and a grizzly if you’re lucky.
